Master the essentials with the Basic Shooting Class, a course developed by HPD legend J.B. Fenwick. Designed for all skill levels, this program reinforces combat shooting fundamentals, mindset, and tactics. This course will focus on pistol and rifle fundamentals to make an officer a better shooter.
Course Details
Dates: July 7–8
Duration: 2 days
Cost: $700 per day, or $1,200 for both days
TCOLE Credit: Yes: (up to 16)

What You’ll Learn
Stance, grip, sights, and trigger control
Combat shooting mindset
Reloading, clearing malfunctions, and alternate shot placement
Timed drills and competitive exercises
Legal considerations and use-of-force discussions

Student Gear Requirements (Mandatory for All Classes):
Ear and eye protection
Ballistic vest / body armor
Primary duty pistol
Duty belt that fits properly, equipped with:
Holster
Magazine holder
At least three pistol magazines
Basic Tactical Pistol Class
Primary duty pistol
300 pistol rounds
All mandatory equipment listed above
Basic Tactical Patrol Rifle Class
Patrol rifle or PPC with two-point or single-point sling (rifle should be zeroed/sighted in prior to class)
300 rifle rounds
At least three rifle magazines
100 pistol rounds (for transition drills)
All mandatory equipment listed above
What Else to Bring
Water bottle or hydration system
Breakfast, snacks, and lunch (no meals provided during the day)
Sunscreen and bug spray
Notebook and pen for notes
Personal medications
Backup batteries or chargers (for radios or optics)
Hat and sunglasses (recommended for outdoor portions)
Weather-appropriate outerwear
Lodging & Meals
On-Site Lodging: $55 per bunk (exclusive Vanpelt discount)
